Ford TPMS Guide

FORD TPMS RELEARN PROCEDURE

Select your vehicle to find compatible tyre pressure sensors and follow the correct Ford TPMS relearn procedure. This guide includes both the standard ignition manual relearn and the push-button start manual relearn procedure.

Select Your Ford to Find Compatible Tyre Pressure Sensors

Use the selector below to help customers choose the correct Ford TPMS sensor and relearn method.

Two Common Ford Methods

Ford commonly uses either a standard ignition relearn process or a push-button start relearn process depending on the vehicle.

Timing Matters

The ignition and brake pedal steps must be completed correctly and within the required sequence for training mode to activate.

Tool Required

A TPMS activation tool is required to trigger each wheel sensor during the relearn process.

Procedure 01

Manual Relearn Procedure (Standard Ignition)

Use this method on Ford vehicles with a standard ignition key sequence.

  1. Engage the parking brake and inflate all tyres.
  2. Turn ignition to the OFF position.
  3. Press and release the brake pedal.
  4. Quickly turn ignition from OFF to RUN (engine off) 3 times, ending in RUN.
  5. Press and release the brake pedal.
  6. Turn ignition OFF.
  7. Quickly turn ignition from OFF to RUN (engine off) 3 times, ending in RUN.
  8. All steps above must be completed within 10 seconds.
  9. A single horn chirp indicates relearn mode is active.
  10. Use the TPMS tool to activate the left front sensor.
  11. A single horn sounds to indicate the sensor was learned successfully.
  12. Repeat for the right front, right rear, and left rear sensors.
  13. TRAINING MODE COMPLETE will display on the message centre when relearn is finished.
Procedure 02

Manual Relearn Procedure (Push-Button Start)

Use this method on Ford vehicles with push-button start.

Important: Some models require the start button to be pressed twice without pressing the brake to enter RUN mode (Ignition ON / Engine OFF). If this applies, modify steps 3 and 5 as shown below.
  1. Engage the parking brake and inflate all tyres.
  2. With the vehicle OFF, push and release the brake pedal.
  3. Push the START button 5 times (or 8 times if 2x-to-RUN is required).
  4. Press and release the brake pedal.
  5. Push the START button 6 times (or 9 times if 2x-to-RUN is required).
  6. A single horn chirp indicates relearn mode is active.
  7. Use the TPMS tool to activate the left front sensor.
  8. A single horn sounds to indicate the sensor was learned successfully.
  9. Repeat for the right front, right rear, and left rear tyres.
  10. TRAINING MODE COMPLETE will display on the message centre when relearn is finished.
Troubleshooting

Ford TPMS Troubleshooting Tips

These extra checks can help if the Ford TPMS relearn does not complete properly.

Lower the Driver’s Window

On larger vehicles, lowering the driver’s side window may help complete the process successfully.

Expedition Push-Button Note

Ford Expedition vehicles may require the start button to be pressed twice without pressing the brake to enter RUN mode during relearn.

Modify Steps 3 and 5

If 2x-to-RUN is required, adjust the push-button sequence as noted in the procedure above.

Use the TPMS Tool Correctly

Make sure the activation tool is positioned properly at each wheel and that each horn chirp is heard before moving on.

Important Notes

Setup Tips for Successful Relearn

These checks can improve the success rate of the Ford TPMS relearn process.

Correct Tyre Pressure

Always inflate all tyres correctly before starting the relearn sequence.

Follow the Timing

The ignition and brake steps must be completed in the correct order and fast enough to enter training mode.

Listen for the Horn

The horn chirp confirms the vehicle has entered training mode and each sensor has been recognised.

Work in the Correct Order

Always train the tyres in the correct sequence: left front, right front, right rear, then left rear.
