RAM trailer setup

Factory Trailer TPMS · XG9 system

Set up the trailer profile, select the axle and tyre layout, and pair each sensor in the order shown on your RAM display. Includes replacing a single sensor and troubleshooting.

Guide application: RAM 2500/3500 pickups and 3500/4500/5500 chassis cabs with the factory XG9 system described in the manual. Check your equipment and display before starting.

  1. Prepare the vehicle. Have compatible, correctly prepared sensors fitted. Keep the trailer near or connected, select PARK and turn the ignition to RUN. Have a pressure gauge and inflation equipment ready.
  2. Open the trailer setup. Go to Settings → Trailer → your trailer → Tire Pressure → Setup All Tires. Select the axle and tyre counts and enter the specified trailer tyre pressure.
  3. Start pairing. Select Start and keep the screen open. At the highlighted wheel, reduce pressure by 5 psi (34 kPa). Allow up to three minutes for confirmation.
  4. Follow the display. One horn chirp and a green wheel confirm success. Continue with the next highlighted wheel. If you hear a double chirp, use Retry when shown.
  5. Finish and restore pressures. Complete every required wheel in the same session and select Finish. Reinflate all tyres to their specified pressure, check with a gauge and review the display before driving.

This is a short pairing overview. Read the full RAM manual (PDF, new tab) for system requirements, receiver setup, screen examples and replacing a single sensor. Follow the fitting instructions for your supplied sensor and valve hardware.

Chevrolet Silverado

2020–2021 · Four-wheel trailer setup

Follow the illustrated Trailering app procedure, from connecting your trailer and opening the sensor-learning screen to checking all four tyre pressures.

Guide application: January 2020–December 2021 Silverado with the compatible trailer TPMS system. For 2022–2024 Silverado, ask us to confirm the correct procedure.

  1. Connect and prepare. Fit compatible, correctly prepared sensors to all four trailer wheels and set the specified cold pressures. Securely hitch the trailer and connect its electrical plug so the vehicle detects it.
  2. Park safely outdoors. Select P, apply the parking brake and keep the engine running for this procedure. Have a pressure gauge and inflation equipment ready.
  3. Open the Trailering app. Select the correct trailer profile, then Status → Tires → Setup Tire Sensors → Yes Setup Now → 4 Sensors. Enter the specified trailer pressure and select Start when ready.
  4. Pair the highlighted wheel. Release air for about 10 seconds, watching for confirmation. Stop as soon as the tyre registers. A green checkmark confirms it. Follow the next wheel shown on the screen.
  5. Complete all four. Each learning step allows 120 seconds; this is the pairing window, not the air-release duration. When Setup Complete appears, select Done.
  6. Restore and check. Reinflate every tyre to its specified pressure, check with a gauge, refit the valve caps and verify the readings before towing. If pairing times out, restore pressures before restarting.

Use the trailer’s specified pressures. Read the full Silverado manual (PDF, new tab) for the illustrated sequence and troubleshooting. This guide covers vehicle pairing; sensor programming with a separate tool is a different step.

Your vehicle needs compatible trailer TPMS equipment. Confirm the trailer monitoring menu and required hardware before ordering sensors.

02 / SENSORS

Match and fit correctly

Check the OE reference, vehicle build date and valve type. Have the sensors fitted by a tyre professional and follow the instructions for the supplied hardware.

03 / PRESSURES

Pair, reinflate and check

Use the correct vehicle guide. After pairing, restore every trailer tyre to its specified pressure and verify it with a gauge before towing.

Helpful answers

Trailer TPMS questions.

Are these sensors for my trailer or my vehicle’s own wheels?

The products on this page are listed for trailer tyre monitoring applications. The sensor must match your vehicle’s trailer system. If you are replacing a sensor in the vehicle’s own wheels, browse our vehicle TPMS sensors or contact us to check the part.

Will fitting sensors add trailer monitoring to any vehicle?

The vehicle must have compatible trailer monitoring hardware and the required setup functions. Sensors alone do not add that system. Check your vehicle equipment or ask MyTPMS before purchasing.

Is sensor programming the same as pairing to the vehicle?

Programming prepares a compatible replacement sensor for its application. Pairing teaches the vehicle’s trailer system which sensors to monitor. The manuals here explain vehicle pairing. Ask us about any sensor preparation or tool requirements before fitting.

Which instructions should I use for GMC, Cadillac or a later Silverado?

The Silverado manual linked here covers the 2020–2021 four-wheel trailer procedure. For GMC, Cadillac or 2022–2024 Silverado, contact MyTPMS for guidance matched to your vehicle. Use the procedure that applies to your actual model and trailer system.

What if a sensor does not pair or a pressure reading is missing?

Follow the troubleshooting section in the matching manual. Check the selected trailer profile, sensor compatibility and required connection. Restore all tyre pressures and verify them with a gauge before driving or restarting a procedure. If you need help, tell us your vehicle details and what the screen shows.
